I truly believe that empathy and responsibility will win every single day.
No matter who you are and what you do in this world those 2 things are FREE. We use phrases like “it’s just business” or “don’t take it personal” to take the easy way out. To avoid the truth. To avoid the elephant in the room. To avoid doing the hard work, the right thing, and to avoid the awkward conversation that would actually incite positive change. We are seeing the adverse affects of that mindset and that inaction being tested all over the world and right in our backyard: The Syrian bombings and refugee crisis, the Dakota Access oil pipeline and Standing Rock protest, the US Presidential election and misinformation/fake news/social media involved, the hacking of the DNC by Russia during the election, the impeachment of South Korea President Park Geun-hye, the conviction of Geert Wilders in the Netherlands, the “war” on big pharma, weed, and illegal drugs in North America…the list goes on.
Every time we choose the easy way out, the division grows larger between business/personal conversation, our human relationships, and our politics…leading to more and more dissent between classes, races, ages, when it comes to education, business, money, and even the definition of success. No one wins in that world except a powerful few. And even then, we are seeing what happens when good people expose them for their actions/words. I think they will begin to lose BIG as things progress and good triumphs. Money isn’t everything. We all want peace. We all want equal rights. We all want freedom.
Given the current global environment, it’s safe to say a social/cultural revolution is upon us. Instead of asking myself “what can I do…what will little ‘ol me do to help this world be a better place, how will I make an impact?? Etc…” I will ask myself instead “what am I doing to live and breathe empathy? What am I doing to take responsibility? What am I doing to take my life and others lives personally?”
Rise up, look out for each other, do the hard work, and focus on what’s right. I’ll be 100% proud of my life if I get better at that every single day. #letsgo!
